Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba says he is well aware of the impact new signing Monnapule Saleng has had at Orbit College and has expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, adding that the squad is looking forward to playing alongside him.

Sundowns will face Orbit for the first time when the two sides meet in a Betway Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Monday night.

The match comes shortly after the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations, which ended dramatically in Morocco on Sunday.

Saleng spent the first half of the season on loan at Orbit College from Orlando Pirates, before being unexpectedly signed by Sundowns, despite expectations that he would return to his parent club.

β€œWe know what Saleng has done for Orbit College. He was a very good player for them, and I’m just happy with the signing as well with the team,” said Modiba.

β€œWe know what he can do and what he is capable of doing, what he has done in the previous teams, and he’s a good addition to the team, and we’re looking forward to playing with him, and hopefully he can help us in the second round of the league. So, we’re just happy to have him.”

Sundowns head into the fixture eager to secure all three points after a slow start to the season, as they look to defend their league title against Orlando Pirates, who currently sit at the top of the table.

The defending champions are second on the log with 26 points from 13 matches, while Orbit are 13th with 13 points from 14 games.

β€œIt’s good to be back in the league,” Modiba added.

β€œIt’s going to be an interesting game against Orbit, a team I’ve never played against before. But we’ve been watching them and we know how they play.

β€œThey’re going to give us a tough time, because no game is easy in the PSL.

β€œWe want to do well for ourselves and our supporters. They can come out in numbers and keep cheering for the team. Every match is important at Sundowns, and these are vital three points for us. We’re ready for the game,” Modiba concluded.
