South African official Abongile Tom will be part of the refereeing team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Senegal and hosts Morocco at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah on Sunday.

Tom will serve as the fourth official in the final, as the AFCON curtain comes down after nearly a month of action in Morocco.

DR Congo referee Jean-Jacques Ngambo Ndala will officiate the match, assisted by compatriots Guylain Bongele Ngila and Gradel Mwanya Mbilizi.

Styven Danek Moutsassi Moyo, who served as the fourth official in Senegal’s victory over Egypt on Wednesday, will be the third assistant referee for the final.

Tom previously took charge of the round-of-16 encounter between Mali and Tunisia, as well as Senegal’s quarter-final win over Mali. He also served as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) instructor during Nigeria’s semi-final defeat to Morocco on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the grand finale brings together two of Africa’s top-ranked nations in the FIFA world rankings. Morocco, who made history by reaching the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup, are ranked 11th in the world, while Senegal are 19th.

Pre-match stat:

Senegal will be appearing in their fourth AFCON final and their first since 2021, while Morocco will contest their second final and their first since 2004.

When Morocco lifted the trophy in 1976, the final stage was played in a round-robin format, with no single final match.

This will be the teams’ first meeting at the Africa Cup of Nations, but their 32nd encounter overall. Senegal have recorded six wins to Morocco’s 18, with seven draws. Their most recent meeting was in the CHAN 2024 semi-final in Uganda, which Morocco won on penalties.
