Former Orlando Pirates winger Mahlatsi Makudubela is set to leave Congolese giants AS Vita club, just four months after signing for the Kinshasa-based outfit in January, Sportswire has established.
‘Skudu’, as the South African player is affectionately known, put pen to paper on an eight-month contract with an option to extend for a further year with the 1973 African champions at the beginning of the year.
However, during his time in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Makudubela struggled to command a regular place in the starting XI, although he had some notable performances in the Congolese Linafoot Ligue 1.
The ex-Marumo Gallants star notably scored in the 5-0 thumping of Kuya Sport in a man of the match winning performance back in April, under the tutelage of coach Bruno Ferry, who was shown the exit door last month due to a string of poor results.
Makudubela was part of a host of players that were signed in January, in a desperate bid to get the team back on track following a CAF Confederations Cup exit at the hands of Stellenbosch FC in the second preliminary round. Interestingly, Vita signed an additional 12 players last month.
This publication understands that Makudubela has already left the DRC, with his Central African chapter set to be closed. It remains to be seen whether the 35-year-old will hang up his boots or be open to enticing proposals across the continent.
