Football Association Of Malawi (FAM) has appointed Kalisto Pasuwa as interim Flames coach just two days after firing former Kaizer Chiefs captain Patrick Mabedi.
Pasuwa, who is in charge of Malawian champions Nyasa Big Bullets, will be assisted by Silver Strikers coach Peter Mponda and Moyale Barracks Pritchard Mwansa. Kinnah Phiri and Young Chimodzi have been appointed as technical advisors.
Pasuwa is expected to lead the Flames for the remaining two Afcon matches against Burundi and Burkina Faso.
The Flames of Malawi will face Burundi on November 15 in Ivory Coast before hosting Burkina Faso at Bingu National Stadium four days later.
The Football Association Of Malawi has decided to terminate the contract of Mabedi following the disappointing performance of the Flames in the recent Afcon 2025 qualifiers against Senegal. Mabedi was appointed as the head coach in June 2023 after the team’s impressive showing at the 2023 Cosafa Cup.
However, the Flame’s recent struggle with the Africa Cup of Nations qualification has led to his dismissal. Malawi currently sits at the bottom of Group L with zero points after four matches. Both Burkina Faso and Senegal have already secured their places in the 2025 Afcon finals with 10 points.
